Now from the depth a summer-mountain rose in full blossom and full of strong leaves. Hitting against it, as if against very fine grinding-stones of diamond, the mirror-like golden-white waters of the milk-ocean burst into sprays of the finest dew-droplets which settled soft as a breeze on all the flowers and leaves, and on all the grass and moss which covered the fertile earth and the golden-silvery rocks of the mountain. The luminous alfs assumed the shapes of the animals of the woods; and they peopled the soft summer-night in that manner. Some of them, however, in the shape of dwarfs and with brown clothes and fog-hoods, climbed into the knot-holes of the trees where they crouched full of expectation. Now it began to resound more and more within the summer mountain. Finally,
due to the tones, on the peak of the rock a mighty golden-silvery crown
formed, richly set with jewels, and it shone under the lustrous eye
of the moon. And when the crown had reached its perfect shape, it began to swing and sing in beautiful strains, and it created storms of enthusiasm of joyful dancing all around it. |
