“But now there was no town anymore where to sell the eggs. So the boy went slowly back to his village.

However, he had not gone far when he was hungry again.

So he broke the eggs and drank them. Then he had an idea.
He took the rolled-up field with the daughter of the old woman and her bundle in it and put everything into an empty eggshell which he carried to the bank of the river where he set it afloat.

“The eggshell danced on the river and was carried to the ocean.
In that manner the eggshell travelled thousands of miles until eventually a huge billow hit the shell against an island and smashed it.

“And the rolled-up field appeared from the shell and unrolled again. It released the daughter of the old woman and her bundle. And from the bundle the old woman came forth, and the two yowans were still fighting on the palm of her hand. And the elephant too and the forest and the three million cows and the sixty thousand oxen all appeared.

And each and every one of them at once continued to pursue the realization of their limited goals.”

With these words the owl flew down from her branch into the flower-adorned grass and assumed her true human form.
Mani's breath stood still for she recognized her grandmother. And the story - Mani was now sure of it - was the story of her grandfather and of her father and of her maternal grandfather. Mani knew that her father had gone through quite an adventurous development when he became the king of the mermen, but he had never talked about it - as the wise never talk about themselves.

And even the grandmother, who was the queen and who embraced her granddaughter after being away for so long, would hardly have discussed the history of her own family had she not been asked to do so here in her office; for those present had told the story and asked for an explanation.

All of this flashed through Mani's mind, and immediately she also thought of her girl friends who had accompanied her on her travel to Sol on the ship, and she felt the desire and the oligation to take them all to this Island of Happiness; for did not her grandfather too do everything to lead the citizens of his country to higher perfection?

Mani now also realized that she was the daughter of the king's son and the princess who was born overnight and could at once make music and speak all languages.

She was glad to learn something about her own history too. And when the grandmother came towards Mani who stood quite confounded and fast - as if rooted to the spot - at the edge of the clearing and waved at her affectionately, Mani's astonished shyness dissolved and full of joy she went to meet her.

After an affectionate greeting Mani looked towards the young girls who so far had been sitting with their back towards her, and who now rose from their colourful mats.

How astonished and happy she was to see her own travel-companions who apparently had been here on the Island of Happiness for training since long before, and who obviously had accompanied her father on his adventurous journey too.

And now Mani wanted to know who actually had been the two ex-soldiers, who the three kings of the birds, the wild dove, the wild duck and the stork, the golden rams, the golden ewes and the golden lambs, and the twelve golden bulls, the twelve golden cows and the twelve golden calves.

And Mani met many of them in the group of her own comrades and she guessed that her own father had obviously planned a similar development for her, as had done before his grandfather for her father, and she was anxious to know how it continued.

Finally Mani and Sol said good-bye to her revered grandmother and to her many travel-companions, who had all accompanied them part of the way, and happily went on further up the mountain.
