“He had not gone a long way when he saw his rival coming. He carried a whole forest on his head. ”This is really a worthy opponent,” he thought to himself.

“And he adressed the rival with these words, ”I have heard about your reputation, and I have come from my country to fight you. Shall we make one round?”

“Certainly,” the other answered. ”Only come with me to the town for there is nobody here to be the umpire.”
“But I am in a rush to get home,” replied the first. ”So let us fight here and now. As for the umpire: there is an old woman passing by. I will ask her to watch us and judge the fight.”

So he went to the woman and said, ”Oh mother, stay for a moment and watch our fight!”
“I can't, my son, I can't,” answered the old woman, ”because my daughter has stolen all my oxen and cows, and I have to run to catch up with her. But if you like to fight on the palm of my hand, I will watch your contest as I continue on my way.”

The two wrestlers jumped on the hand of the old woman, with the elephant and the forest, and began to wrestle. And the woman rushed on over fields and rivers.
“When the daughter of the old woman saw her mother from far, she was terrified at first. She thought her mother had brought soldiers to catch her.

But when she saw that her mother had only two wrestlers with her, she reached for the mother and the wrestlers with a bold stroke.
“With the elephant and the forest and the three million cows and the sixty thousand oxen which she drove with her, she tied it all up in a bundle.
The bundle again she placed on her head and rushed on.

However, one of the oxen got hungry. It stuck its head out of the bundle and lowed.
The daughter of the old woman tore two pear-trees from the edge of the way and stuck them into the mouth of the oxen for food.

“Now the field and the trees belonged to a farmer whose little son was just about to go to the town to sell eggs on the market.
The little boy saw how the daughter of the old woman pulled out the pear-trees, and he became very angry.

He grabbed one corner of the field and pulled. The daughter of the old woman, who was just crossing the field, stumbled and fell. However, before she was able to get up again the boy had rolled up the field like a carpet, with the daughter of the old woman and her bundle within.

He took the roll and went on to the town.

“On his way the boy had become so hungry that as soon as he arrived in the town, he took a whole bakery and stuffed it in his mouth.
When the townsfolk were terrified, he seized the whole town and put it in his basket.
