Die Macht der Erleuchtung

The next morning the little boy sat very early at the well and guarded it. His finger hurt again and he passed it over his head; unfortunately a hair fell into the well. He quickly took it out but it was all golden, and his finger too.

“The fine hair proves that pure truth has its gilding influence even on the very smallest, the very minutest detail; if wisdom is brought in touch with even the least important detail of a detail, it works perfectly gilding; for nothing is too small or too mean that it could not draw full advantage from pure truth.

“The third day the boy sat at the fountain and did not move his finger, no matter how much it hurt.
But the time grew long, and he watched his face reflecting in the water.

“And as he leaned over further to look into his own eyes, his long hair fell down from his shoulders into the water.
He quickly got up, but all the hair on his head was golden already and shone like the sun.
When someone gains knowledge, he tends to put it into action directly; for this is the purpose of knowledge, to express itself in action like the parents express themselves in their child.

“Pure knowledge by nature challenges the creative power, and a good measure of practice is required to remain on the level of pure knowledge and not to be hurled into the world of action.

“The boy did not have this practice, and so his finger - that is, his organ of action - urged for action.
The third day however, the king's son was strong enough to suppress his outer action - a great achievement in the immediate vicinity of pure truth, close to the achievement of someone who, coming up here on the mountain and arriving near the ring of the inner exercises of the mind, succeeds in suppressing completely the events of the Walpurga's night which are incited there at the field of unity with great creative might, so that he arrives at the forest of the silent ways without any of these special impressions and experiences.
