The Power of Comparison | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Being in office with due honour but not higher ranking than the ministers themselves, the young man highly upset these quasi-colleagues by proposing to have a child from the princess overnight, a child that could speak all languages and even make music; because then just as well one of them might have married the king's daughter a long time ago, if this could have been thought of at all. Many of them probably had thought this idea quietly - just thinking it, not really planning anything, let aside doing something; but this boy, coming only recently from anywhere, dared to even speak out loudly such a megalomanic idea which would make him successor to the king and ruler of the ministers. Better one of them than just that boy - the ministers thought, and they saw the solution of all problems in putting the mad young man, who obviously estimated himself higher than all of them put together, into safe custody which also would have put a sudden end to the test of his abilities. |
