“The hundred and eight sons of the ruler over the world perceive hidden within the natural universal unity of life and of creation yet another immeasurable, infinite cosmic diversity which embraces all spaces and times, and they enter the eighth main state of consciousness.

“Whereas in the state of unity consciousness one still perceives all the diversity of the world as being wrought around an inherent unity - as if the diversity sprang from it like innumerable rays of light from one single sun - on a higher stage of cognition an infinitely many times greater cosmic diversity is discovered within this universal unity of all beings and things; in that manner a completely new gate opens to the sons of the king: the diamond star-gate to wisdom opens before them.

“In their inner nature they are now raised above the rank of a warrior which has, according to the laws of the sages, the fulfilment of cosmic duty for its task, to successfully walk the way to unity.

But now they have already left unity consciousness behind, the great goal of a sincere civil servant, and thus they are confronted with a very new field of activity: the task of those that strive for wisdom is ahead of them.

“Whereas the warrior, or the civil servant, has to make his way to unity consciousness by doing his duty, and in the course of it performs his heroic deeds, the student of wisdom has quite a different field of activity.

And on this holy ground the sons of the king are standing now at the beginning of a very new, free life - full of unheard, splendid, new tasks.

“As Helgi now sees that his beloved sons are raised out of the rank of a warrior by the grace of the sage, he feels overwhelmed with shame for his status of a king and civil servant; since here he is shown clearly how small and narrow the heroic deeds of a great statesman actually are - compared to the deeds of grace of a true sage - even if the sovereign is a ruler over the world, and even if he is liked so very much everywhere.

Deeply absorbed in thought the king returns to his capital: with the help of the great sage he has accomplished his task of being a king; but one may say just as well: the holy man has released the statesman from his regal duty; and one may also say: the will of the sage is fulfilled as planned.

“Helgi places the son that had remained at home to take care of the governmental affairs on the king's throne.

Then the retired king goes into the high mountains and begins to perform great, personal sacrifices in order to ask his divine ancestor Uller to grant him a boon, because he wants to thank the mighty sage Sehermund with a pure heart and in a worthy manner for what he has done so graciously for his people, for his hundred and eight sons, and for himself.

“After some time his kind ancestor appears.

Helgi asks him for a bow and arrows with secret powers, and receives what he asks for.

“With these divine weapons Helgi attacks Sehermundis hermitage. On the attack all the ascetics living in the forest run away full of fear - although Sehermund tries to comfort them and asks them to stay.
