The King of Summer

Now the sun rose to the left above the crystal castle. An aurora covered the rainbow mists and brought the world gradually and softly into the field of view of the day. The spindles in the hands of the fairies scintillated in many shades of gold, and Mani recognized very subtle mosaics of pearls on them.
Now the spindles turned crystal-clear; permeated with golden sparks they looked like the firmament of stars.
With the brightness of the sun a scintillating red-violet splendour arose from the revolving spindles and reflected as a cosmic play of light in the tender hands of the daughters of happiness.

Enticed by the golden threads of the three beautiful queens, the summer-mountain appeared under the shelter of the sun. Approaching in a solemn procession it was accompanied by mighty trees.

Some of the rulers of the forest had assembled under the mountain and joined in with their green garment of leaves, their proud tree-tops nestling against the hill from below; others again had settled on the summer-mountain, residing there proudly in the glory of their ripening fruits.

Flower-strewn meadows adorned the sun-hill, and in its shadow at the feet of the trees, the grass-blades joined the green glory as it moved along.
Colourful singing birds and other animals of the forest accompanied the festive procession of summer, just as did the sun in the sky, and the whole hill was sumptuously decorated with the fragrant flowers of its woods and pastures.

The season of the sun presented itself in its greatest splendour before Mani's eyes. The blossoms threw their delicate petals down onto the meadows, which were already so richly decorated with their own colourful flowers, and they formed their well-rounded fruits that ripened quickly, while at the same time next to them, other buds were still unfolding, as if in a muse, into fragrant colourful flowers.
Ever new sprouting leaves stretched out towards the smiling sun, and in their shadow animals and birds fed upon the nectar that slumbered in the honeydew of the grasses and flowers.

Half the way up the flower-mountain a wise man in a golden garment was sitting under the shield of the sun on a golden throne. His long flowing golden-white beard was framed in black and blue.
Flower-garlands full of sweet fragrant blossoms flowed graciously around his neck and fell towards the mighty feet of his throne of many shades of gold.

In front of himself the sun carried a cooling golden-silvery shield, half of which he had borrowed from the moon, lest his radiance might fall onto the mighty ruler with too much heat.
Like delicate streams of golden raindrops his light-sparks poured down on the head of the mighty, where they lit up brightly and threw golden rainbow-bridges towards the three holy virgins and their well, towards the crystal palace and towards all the trees.

These golden-braided rainbows miraculously merged with the light-bridges that were clad in white-shimmering mists, and which stretched towards the silvery hill of wisdom.

Full of confident love the gracious wise beheld from his golden throne the powerful unfoldment of summerly nature and not even the smallest detail seemed to escape his alert and gracious sight; indeed, it seemed as though everything blossomed into full natural splendour only due to the radiance of his blessing eye.

Only when Mani looked towards the retreating winter-mountain she noticed, that it was the wise man ruling there, who had caused her deep and recreative silence and thus had given her that refreshing clarity of mind.

Now a mild and warm breeze blew near from the sun-hill, blending into this quiet coolness of her mind; it permeated Mani's feeling and radiated enlivening warmth throughout her, thus balancing the deep and cool calmness of her mind.

While a refreshing coolness remained in the height of her head, a pleasant warmth emanated from her feeling and penetrated all her limbs, permeating her with the unclouded power of the sun.
Now her inner happiness of life grew, climbing from the wonder-well of her heart aloft into the starry vessel of her mind, to settle there in the shape of impetuous joy of life.
