While the giantesses with their yarn caught everything created, one of them bound everything that lay behind them, the second fettered everything that was near them, above them, underneath them, and to the left and right of them, and the third focussed on everything that stretched out ahead of them.

The relentless, hard-hearted orders they gave to the creatures and things with their shrill and loud voices, determining and sealing their fates together, rang horrifying in Mani's ears.

In addition the three giantesses had with them a fountain, hewn from rock, which followed them like a dog.
A foul and mouldy slime flowed forth from the rock, pouring out to all sides.

Before they knotted them together, the wild shrews dipped their ropes into this morass which seemed to bring all trouble of the world with it.
Thus the rope received a greybrown colour from the dirt of the dross, and their woven cloth which covered all of nature like a spider web wrapped the whole world into a dark-grey joyless veil.

When one of the monsters suddenly came critically close to Mani, she sat down at once; she feared the hag would tread on her with her rude and uncouth foot, that was as big as a huge oak. Quickly she closed her eyes.

When Mani woke up again like from a deep, recuperative sleep and opened her eyes, she saw before her on the blooming clearing a magnificent crystal palace - clad into subtle veils of haze.
In the quiet light of the full moon she saw three most beautiful girls sitting in front of the sparkling palace under a big oak-tree, richly laden with fruits, and turning their spindles.

With their exceedingly sweet voices they sang songs of the good fortune of human existence and of the beneficial forces of nature.
Dressed in snow-white garments, richly embroidered with gold and silver, and wrapped into rainbow-like veils of stars, they appeared to Mani like wishing-girls - like the highest fairies in the world.

Next to the milk-white radiant virgins of fortune a crystal-clear refreshing source sprang forth from a silver-wrought well of diamonds, set with flowers, and flowed in many little fragrant channels down the flower hill into the plain.
The pure waters covered all the flowers and grasses, all trees and leaves and all shrubs with dew and steeped the bright clearing into a silvery shimmering light, iridescent in many colours; Mani thought she was sitting on a pearl-decorated moon-lake.
