The Flight Through the Worlds

On the next clearing Mani saw a group of boys and girls who had clad themselves in eagleis capes in which they flew through the air. These cloaks shone like a fine golden-silvery plumage and were interlaced with innumerable blue veins.

The extremely fine ends of the individual hairs of the feathers vibrated like minute snakes scintillating in blue and silver; and from the tip of the fibres, as if from minute snake-mouths, blew red-golden shining, fiery winds which shimmered silvery-blue outside.

“This group travels through the worlds,” Sol explained to his sister. ”We only see them fly away and return; but in between they cover large distances.
The miraculous flying capes make their users swift as the cosmic wind, which is much faster than any other wind - it is even faster than a normal thought.

“The cloaks were skilfully made by the wise alf whom you see sitting there to the right on a raised throne.
From his seat the moon-alf watches the success of the flights of his pupils.

“Sometimes he also flies with them through the vast spaces. But also he can easily control the flying exercises of his pupils from his seat, because he has a golden-silvery magic ring through which he can see into all spaces and times.
Look, just now he is looking through the ring.

“The eagle-shirts are a marvellous invention; and even the gods, alfs and giants are using them when they want to travel fast.

The principle of using them lies in the user bringing himself completely into harmony with the cosmic wind and, in doing so, even bodily assuming the structure of the cosmic wind - then he is able to fly through the air like Hr”swelg, the father of the winds.
Maybe you can see the inner and outer transformation of those practising.”
