Inside the same darkness received them as in the previous castle; this time however, the night was lit by silvery flashes of intermittent lightning so that Mani could look into unfathomable spaces, but only for very short moments; she became dizzy and lost her orientation. In the intermittent rhythm of the flashes she also became hot and cold; in the deep darkness she was overcome by great tiredness; for a short time she fell asleep, only to be woken up again by the next lightning.
